The Green Tint
A lot of people ask me, "Why is there a green tint in my glass?"

Did you ever wonder why the ocean is blue? Well, that's not important now.

Actually, glass is made up of sand silica and iron ore. During the firing process, the particles mix and leave a green tint. This is especially noticeable on the edges of the glass. The thicker the glass and the larger the piece, the darker the green tint will be. Different minerals create different colors. For example, adding gold to the molten glass will give the glass a red tint.

Anyway, back to green. Manufacturers reduced the iron ore and created a glass called Star Fire (one name for it). The glass is optically clear to look through and was designed for commercial use. Recently the shower industry has also picked up on it because of its clarity in custom enclosures.

We carry samples of Star Fire glass and many more types of glass at our shop. We hope you'll give us a call and / or stop in to meet with us to discuss your needs.

Thanks,
